Report of the 1st  Kyokushin-Kan South Asian Regional Countries

   Open Karate Tournament in India

  17th, 18th, November 2007

     At Koramangala Indoor stadium in Bangalore, India.

 

 

 Sensei Ravi Carvalho functioned as the organizer of the 1st SARC Kyokushin-Kan open Karate Championship as well as the Chairman of the Championship which was the held at Koramangala Indoor stadium in Bangalore, India.He welcomed contestants and Branch chiefs of other SARC Countries with great respect. the hospitality given at Bangalore was indeed supreme and we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Sensei Ravi Carvalho and his organizing committee for the wonderful reception given to us.

 

Sensei Mohammed Seyar Azadani (4th Dan) of Afghanistan Branch Chief, Sensei M.Kumarasamy (4th Dan) Branch Chief of Tamil Nadu, India, Sensei Mihir Bag (3rd Dan) Branch Chief of West Bengal, India, Sensei Narayani Zone  of  Nepal and Sensei Prasanna Fernando(4th Dan) Branch Chief of Sri Lanka participated as Refries for the 1st SARC Championship.

 

The Championship was conducted by Sensei Ravi under the complete supervision of Sensei Fernando from its beginning to the end. In this connection, others such as Sensei Azadani, Sensei Mihir Bag, Sensei Kumarasamy too gave their total co-operation.

 

A fine display and demonstrations of Kyokushin Karate was given by Sensei Azadani, Sensei Ravi and Sensei Fernando in the Championship. On this occasion, a display of the Kanku Kata was exhibited and towards the end, the strength of the Kyokushin-Kan was exhibited with large blocks of ice being broken (Tamashiwari Enbu) by Afghanistan, India and Sri Lankan Branch Chiefs.

 

It must be mentioned that Sensei Ravi Carvalho has given an outstanding start by organizing the 1sr ever Kyokushin-Kan South Asian Regional Countries Open Karate Tournament in India.It would certainly contribute towards expanding Kyokushin Karate-Do within the Asia zone of Countries and in bringing the capabilities of the contestants into an International sphere of recognition.

Competitors represented KyokushinKaikan IKO-1, Shin Kyokushin, KyokushinKaiKan Tezuka Group, KyokushinKaikan Matsushima Group, Kyokushin IFK, Kerala Kick Boxing Organization and Kyokushin-Kan in the 1st SARC Open.

 

The technical skill and Kumite knowledge of fighters who represented all Organizations stood at a very high leval and good spirit where participating from Afghanistan; Qahhar Azadani (3rd Dan) Fawad Hassanzadah (2nd Dan), the Iranian contestant Morteza Oghbaei (2nd Dan) who represented India, the Nepalese fighter Kunjan Shrestha (1st Dan), the Indian fighters Prabhakar (1st Dan) from Bangalore, Sunil Kumar (1st Dan) from Chattisgarh, India, Navin K.R. Singh (1st Dan) Santosh Kumar from West Bengal (1st Dan),V.Kumar (1st Dan) and M.Elango from TamilNadu, Sholk Chandra(1st Dan) from Bihar,  and the Sri Lankan fighter D.L Vijitha Rohana (1st Dan) were of an International standards.it is the view of everybody that the above-named contestants would in the future be in a position to achieve great sucsess in Tournaments and Championships they are expected to participate in.

 

A memorable foundation has been laid through this 1st SARC Kyokushin-Kan Karate Championship to pave the way towards a long journey to function within the Asian zone by the immensely powerful Kyokushin-Kan Karate-Do of Kancho Hatsuo Royama.

Sempai Sudeshan participated at the ‘’Kyokushin Karate Seminar’’ in Toronto.

 

Sempai Sudeshan Thiagarajah participated at the ‘’Kyokushin Karate Seminar’’ in Toronto, Canada on 15th September 2007.Shihan Andre Gilbert (6th Dan-Shihan) too participated at this seminar as a guest Instructor with a large number of male and female students who at the moment undergo training in full contact Karate-Do.

Sempai Sudeshan’s outstanding capabilities gained much praise from Shihan Andre Gilbert at this seminar and it is no doubt a great pride to Sri Lanka.

 

Sempai Sudeshan became Champion twice at the Sri Lanka Oyama Memorial Open Karate Tournament in the year 1999 and 2000.He is a member who has contributed in no less a measure as an assistant Instructor in his duties towards the Sri Lanka Branch of Kyokushin Karate Organization.

 

Presently Sempai Sudeshan has left us for permanent residency in Toronto, Canada in the year 2002 and is presently living there with his wife Aruni , daughters Shani and  Yenuli.

Sri Lanka Full Contact Karate-Do Alliance.

 

The Sri Lankan first Full Contact Karate-Do Alliance was established with the combination and participation of 15th Full Contact Karate Organizations in the month of April in 2007.

 

The purpose of instituting this Organization was to solicit the co-operation of the Ministry of Sports in Sri Lanka and to promote the future advancement of Full Contact Karate-Do.

 

Sensei Tamara Nissanka and Sensei Lakmal Fonseka would be functioning as the President and Secretary in the respect.

 

The under mentioned Full Contact Karate Organizations would be functioning as the Representatives of Full Contact Karate-Do Alliance of Sri Lanka: -

Palitha Rathnayaka (2nd Kyu Brown Belt) who represented the Kyokushin-Kan was successful in clinching 4th Place in under 63 K.G Light Weight Division.

However, as a result of a foul and nasty face punch by his competitor, the formers physician instructed him to retire from the Tournament.

Nalaka Lasantha’s Black Belt grading examination for the Shodan was held in March 2007.

The preliminary Test was held at the Colombo Kyokushin-Kan H/Q while 10 Men Kumite was held at Chandana Jayakody Dojo in Kurunegala. He was successful enough to obtain 5 Ippon and 3 Wazari points and completed his 10 Men Kumite most successfully

1st Kyokushin-Kan World Open Karate Championship, September 10th and 11th 2005

Prasanna Fernando and Sajith Kumudusena participated at the 1st Kyokushin-Kan Open World Championship ‘ Moscow, Russia.

2 rounds in which Prasanna Fernando took part ended in a his first fight and in the final round as a result of a foul Shuto attack Adbullayev Fahridden (Turkmenistan) was adjudged the winner.

Participating at the 1st Kyokushin-Kan International Instructors Seminar held in Fukushima-Ken, Japan on March 19th and 20th.  Kancho Royama, Fuku Kancho Hiroshige, Shihan Okazaki, Shihan Kuromoto (Kuromoto-Juku) and Shihan Sun Li (Ikken) participated at this Seminar in the capacity of Instructors.

Sensei Prasanna Fernando participated at the Black Belt Examination conducted on March 21 for the 4th Dan and was successful. The Promotion test was held under the keen supervision of Kancho Royama and Fuku Kancho Hiroshige, Shihan Okazaki.

ABU DHABI KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2006

Abu Dhabi karate championship was held in Abu Dhabi on  28th April 2006. two Sri Lankan  competitors participated in this championship under middle weight and light weight categories. Nalaka lasantha who fought under light weight category  won two fights  and his name was listed in the best eight. other participant  Thushara Egodahewa fought under middle weight category and he fought well.

A grading test was held on 9th April 2006 at the branch head quarters. both first Dan Black belt and kyu tests were successfully conducted this grading test and two student participated for black belt grading test.
